DESK NOTES

Why a live esports price vanishes mid-match

A live market pauses while the game state resolves. What suspension means on the esports desk, why prices get withheld, and when they return.

A live esports price disappears for one of two reasons: the market itself is suspended while the outcome it prices is being decided, or the desk has withheld the price because its freshness is no longer confirmed. Both are normal. The market reopens when the game state settles, and the price returns with it, usually at a new number.

The market pauses, the match does not

A live market is only open while its outcome is stable enough to price. When a map hits match point, a round decides, or play stops for a technical pause, the book suspends the market rather than keep taking action on a price the next thirty seconds will make wrong. To the reader, the line simply vanishes.

A missing price is information of a limited kind. As the CS2 odds page notes, a missing price may mean the market is paused, closed or absent; it is not decimal 1.00, and it is not a free choice. Never read a gap as a signal about who is winning.

What the desk shows instead

This desk adds a second layer on top of the book's own pauses. It shows full-match winner prices only, and it withholds them when freshness is unconfirmed: when the source reports stale data, when freshness is unknown, or when the reported source age plus the time in the desk's cache exceeds two minutes, per the coverage and freshness page, checked 2026-09-30.

A cached snapshot can appear briefly with a clear age indicator, and an expired response loses its prices entirely. So a match can stay listed while its prices drop out: the fixture is real, the numbers are not currently trustworthy enough to show.

When the price comes back

The market reopens once the game state resolves, and the returning price reflects the new state. A team that was 1.80 before map point might come back at 1.30 after winning it. That is not a move you missed; it is a different market answering a different scoreline.

Treat a reappeared price as a fresh quote, not a continuation. Comparing the pre-pause and post-pause numbers tells you how the market scored what just happened, which is exactly the kind of reading the desk's live view is built for.

If the whole board looks empty

An empty view is a different problem from a vanished price. The schedule filter keeps out matches without a valid future start time, closed or settled full-match markets, records missing the full-match period, and live records more than 18 hours past their scheduled start, as the coverage page lists. A quiet Tuesday with no tier-one CS2, LoL or Dota 2 can legitimately leave the board thin.

So: a vanished price mid-match means a paused market or a withheld number, both temporary. An empty board means the schedule filter found nothing to show. Neither one means a match was cancelled.

The price comes back when the game settles. Read the returning number as the market's verdict on what just happened, and check the age indicator before you trust anything beside it.
